Conférence de presse avec Médecins sans frontières sur la recherche opérationnelle

February 24, 2014 by Charles Goerens

Currently the European Union invests important amounts in medical research and technology development. Furthermore, European countries have agreed to support aid to development, by donating 0,7% of their gross national product to development for low and middle-income countries.
Health is a crucial element in development, and delivering healthcare implies applying innovation and science to health services, in a way that it reaches the patients and communities.
Operational research plays a key role in this, particularly in low-and middle income countries with little resources, capacity and experience to absorb the science and apply it in practice.
There is a need to support operational research by recognizing its role to improve health policy and practice and by providing support to existing structures.
The European Union has a role to play in supporting the development and expansion of the Structured Operational Research Training Initiative (SORT IT), and help develop partnerships to develop the capacity to conduct operational research in low-and middle income countries.
