Mr Charles GOERENS, Member of European Parliament (MEP) from Luxembourg, is looking for a trainee to support him in the day-to-day running of his office in Brussels.

The successful candidate will assist Mr Goerens and his team by carrying out administrative, logistical and research tasks. Subject to the abilities demonstrated, the trainee will also help the communication officer promote all aspects of Mr Goerens’ political work to his electorate by taking a multi-media and, if possible multilingual, strategic approach.

Mr Goerens’ legislative work spans across several Committees in the European Parliament,  including AFCO, DEVE, AGRI, DROI and BUDG.  In this regard, the successful candidate will assist Mr Goerens and his team by carrying out administrative, logistical, policy and communication-related tasks, in line with his political views.

He attends and chairs meetings of several parliamentary committees and works with his political group “Renew Europe” to support its initiatives. Mr Goerens leads the Demokratesch Partei (DP) delegation in the European Parliament and held the pen for their 2019 electoral manifesto. The DP stands for social and liberal values and pursues social and environmental justice for all citizens in Luxembourg. The Demokratesch Partei is a member party of the supranational Alliance of Liberals and Democrats in Europe (ALDE).

As an elected representative of Luxembourg, Mr Goerens organises and/or attends a number of public events in Brussels, in cities and towns around Luxembourg, as well as in Strasbourg.

Main responsibilities:

• Assist Mr Goerens with organising political events, conferences, seminars and webinars, by helping with the logistics, the distribution of documents and the organisation of catering services;
• Help the team preparing different meetings organised within and by the European Parliament, or meetings organised by third parties inside and outside the European Parliament;
• Assist the Communication Officer with managing Mr Goerens’ social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as well as with updating his personal website and exploring other social media opportunities;
• Manage Mr Goerens’ professional emails and calendar ;
• Draft press releases, lines to take and respond to questions from the media in a timely manner and / or according to agreed political strategy;
• Carry out policy research as needed, from open sources, ahead of media interviews;
• Work with the other parliamentary assistants to extract key policy messages from reports, and communicate them in an accessible way to the general public and the press;
• Assist Mr Goerens and his team during the Plenary sessions.

Requirements:

• C2 level in French and C1 level in English;
• German and Luxembourgish language abilities are considered assets, as well as any other EU language;
• Master in EU affairs and/or political science and/or EU law background is an asset;

Skills:

• Precision and rigour ;
• Ability to work in a team with multicultural backgrounds ;
• Ability to identify and summarise key points as well as communicate them clearly and quickly – both orally and in writing ;
• Ability to work autonomously and efficiently ;
• Ability to edit videos.

Challenges:

Applicants must be willing and able to undertake regular travel both to Luxembourg and Strasbourg, sometimes at short notice.

Contract details

• Type of contract: Trainee work contract 5-6 months
• Expected start date: 1st October or 1st November 2023 depending on the candidates availability.
• Salary: 1100€/month
